Notes from Our Prayer Walk, October 2026

Here are some impressions Jesus gave us while walking through the streets of Portland and praying...

LOVE

“We should be showing love to our neighbors with God's love, and being the hands and feet of Jesus, sharing whatever we can when we have the opportunity. We should be ready.”

RESTORATION, FELLOWSHIP

“We heard the words RESTORATION and FRIENDSHIP. The soul of this neighborhood is being restored. And people here are really desiring good friendship, some sort of renewal of fellowship.”

“O. got the word, fellowship.” 

JESUS NEEDED

“The dead (spiritually dead) are helpless, the lost can't find their way, the sick don't know how to be healed. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. He lights the way for the lost, his stripes heal the sick and his blood and resurrection bring the dead to life. We need to bring light, healing and life to our neighbors.”

NEIGHBORS

"I felt Holy Spirit convict me of not loving my neighbors like Jesus does. I repented and asked Holy Spirit to give me his love for our neighbors."

“S. was reminded of friends and families she knows in the neighborhood. Some that she hasn't thought of for a long time. She prayed for them...”

DEERING HIGH SCHOOL

“P. was reminded of God's faithfulness in bringing her family to the Lord, children who had seemed far away when in high school.”

OAK TREE

“I was reminded of the history of the church in the neighborhood when I saw a large oak on the corner of Deering High property. I reminded my group there was a time when the oak was small when the membership of our church was 300, but God has equipped us “for such a time as this.” We were all once far away from God, but God was at work in our lives and our hearts even then, as He is in the hearts of our Deering neighbors. He will use our prayers and acts of love to win souls.”

UNIQUE SOULS

“T. saw that each of the houses we passed were unique and we should not assume we know the neighborhood in any prejudicial way, but trust God's leading.”

BEAUTY AND UGLY

“For me, as we were walking down the street, I was noticing all the Halloween stuff in people’s yards and the darkness that is around that stuff contrasted by all the beautiful vibrant colors of the foliage. I understood this to mean that in the midst of darkness God always has beauty and light shining and on display and additionally when focusing and looking at the physical and man's creations it's often depressing but when looking up at Gods handiwork there is warmth and joy.”
